Karoo Toad; Vandijkophrynus gariepensis
The Karoo Toad is robust with rough skin covered with rounded elevations and is larger than other species (about 95 millimeters in length). Its parotiod glands is very big and they are uniformly a khaki to olive-brown colour with dark asymmetrical dark patches. The underside of the species is white and is often covered with small dark spots. Their toes have no webbing. Hey are well adapted to arid and cold conditions.
Karoo Padloper; Homopus boulengeri
The Karoo Padloper length ranges from 60 to 165 millimetres with the female being slightly larger than the males and body mass of adults can vary from 70 to 650 grams. Coloration varies within the species, and appear to match the dominant colours of the rock and soil of its surrounding environment. They are toffee brown in colour and is plain. They prefer rocky or stony areas, which they use as cover against predators. They hibernate during winter in small burrows and can live up to 30 years. Its diet include grasses, shrubs and herbs.
